May 16th - May 30th

Ms. Hartgering and the 7th grade girls’ advisory will operate a coin drive from May 16th to May 30th to raise money for disaster relief in China and Myanmar.  All proceeds will be donated to UNICEF, an organization that supports children, schools and families.  100% of funds raised will go to disaster relief in these areas.

“Coins for Kids” jugs will be placed in four locations: in the Headmaster's Office of the 4th Floor; in the Middle School Dean's office; in the Lower School Dean’s office; and, at the front desk.

We encourage everyone to support this worthy cause.

Lower School Vocabulary Parade
Friday, June 6th

2:15-2:45 PM

We will be celebrating vocabulary on Friday, June 6th. Almost every week, students from the Lower School present a new vocabulary word that his or her classroom has learned. The presenter or “Word Wizard” wears a special “word wizard” hat, says the word, gives a definition and uses the word in a sentence. The students have been enthusiastic about all the words they have learned this year.

To extend this activity and to share our excitement about learning new vocabulary words, the Lower School will be having a parade of words around the NHCS campus. Weather permitting the parade will be outside from 2:15-2:45.

Please join us and cheer and applaud your children as they march by.

Community Garden

It’s spring time and Champions After School Program is planting a community garden.  The 3rd and 4th graders spent all day on Friday, May 16th tilling and irrigating the soil.

The After Schools seeks donations of:

  • Top soil or planting soil
  • Compost materials
  • Seeds or starter plants
  • Help with soil testing (they have a soil testing kit)
  • Anything else that might help the garden come along nicely would be great to have in the office for the children to use

Champions and the 3rd and 4th enjoyed preparing the garden and look forward to learning how to plant the garden.

Ancient Fishweir Project

On the Boston Common

May 7th - May 28th (closing ceremony to be held May 28th, from 1-3)

This May, students in the Champions After School Program traveled to the Boston Common to build a Fishweir, a Native American wooden fencing system to catch fish.  The Ancient Fishweir Project is an educational initiative of several organizations in Boston and is supported in part by the Friends of the Public Garden.

The elaborate closing ceremony will be held on May 28th from 1-3, and will feature several members of the Wampanoag Tribe.  This exciting ceremony is open to the public.
