Our Favorite Books

May 16 - May 30th

On May 16th Lower School teachers shared their favorite books at Lower School Town Meeting.  The books presented were either adult books or favorite children’s books.

Staff and parents are invited to share your favorite books with the school.  If you have a book you would like to recommend please make a copy of the book cover and write a short statement about the book and why you like it.  Book descriptions will be on display in the reception area and on the bulletin boards throughout the school.

The goal is share the joy of reading and to inspire them to make reading a wonderful lifelong activity. Questions are to be directed to Reading First Coach Harriet Yoffee [harriet at thenhcs dot org].

Artful Adventures, Museum of Fine Arts
Thinking Through Art, April 10th
Mythical Creatures, March 13th

On March 13th and April 13th the middle school students visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to learn about mask-making and to learn how to think critically about artwork.

On the "Mythical Creatures" field trip students saw the art collections that relate to myths and creation stories and they made their own masks. On the "Thinking Through Art" field trip they viewed and learned how to analyze a diverse collection of artwork. Both field trips expanded the visual art curriculum at NHCS.

The "Mythical Creatures" field trip relates to the 7th and 8th grade students' current unit on Surrealism, and "Thinking Through Art" helps students to become critical viewers of art.

Funding for the Artful Adventure comes from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston which donated admission tickets and from the generous support of Target Community Relations which has given us money for art fieldtrips.

The students' Mythical Masks were displayed at the school's Spring Art Show which was held the last week in April.
